What a difference 10 degrees makes

It has been cold (for California) here the past week. This afternoon it warmed up from 46 degrees to 56 degrees. What a difference those 10 degress made, I was sitting on my sunny front porch, people were out walking or gardening even the animals were out.

On our walk today we saw a Heron by the pond:

We also saw some rabbits but they were too fast for me to get a picture of them.

We saw a Bobcat in our neighbors driveway. On our way back to the house we saw him up on the mountain.

Not sure what he was stalking, glad it wasn't us.

Sorry the pictures were blurry but I wasn't going to go any closer to get better pictures.

Til next time, Ronda

  1. It is so lovely to see your photos - the heron looks amazing. Here in London we see little in the way of wildlife other than the occasional fox and squirrels, which are rife in towns. The majority of birds have headed south as we are too cold leaving only a small number of our own natural species. Tomorrow we are expecting heavy snow. Keep well!

    1. Hi Annabelle, My DH and I moved up here about a year ago from a city so seeing a Bobcat is new to us to. We live in a little community at the base of a hill and it's easy for this city girl to forget we live in a wildlife area. Our usual sightings are of deer, quail, rabbits and in the summer small lizards. I really don't desire to see anything larger than the bobcat but have been told there are mountain lions in the area. Hope your snug and warm in your house and out of the snow.

  2. Your wildlife would have me making a tailspin, lol. I'm not a brave person with wildlife. I saw a coyote crossing the road near a new subdivision last fall and I saw a small black bear walking along the walking trail while I was driving. Development is slowly encroaching on their habitat and they come out of the little bit of woods they have left. At least you took some pictures to show for. You're brave.

    1. Hi Julia, I'm not sure how brave I am, probably more naive to the dangers. However my DH assured me we were safe. I've seen coyotes in the fields as I'm driving but I haven't seen a bear and I'm okay if it stays that way. My goal is to get a picture of some quail they just won't sit still.

  3. Hey Ronda - Fun to find a 'new to me' rug hooking blog! I grew up in Truckee - not too far from you - but have lived in Utah for 35+ years now. Great wildlife photos....
