Finished one project and began another

I finished my snowman faces penny rug:

DH made the candle holders from a tree branch he found on our walk this week. Sorry about the setting for the picture.

I finally received the Beginners Rug kit I ordered several weeks ago. Here's a picture of what I'll be working on:

I watched some videos on YouTube and decided to give it try, here is a picture of my first row (bottom of the picture).

Don't you love it when you watch instructors doing something and they make it look so fast and easy? This row probably took me ten minutes to complete, I can only get faster with time, right? I also signed up for a beginners rug hooking session in late January, hopefully I won't have developed too many bad habits by then.

Stay safe and warm.

  1. Hi Ronda, your hooking looks perfect to me. You're right about getting faster as times goes on but it's not all about speed, as long as you enjoy hooking, you can only get better as you learn to relax.
    Enjoy the process.

I hope that you've explored Rug Hooking Daily a little. You can click on photos at the top of the page and there are thousands of gorgeous rugs to look at and if you type in a subject in search, for example " dog ", photos of dog rugs will show up as long as the member has properly tagged that photo with the right name, it will come up.

Also Gene Shepherd has some free Youtube videos on how to hook and hook points or circles which you probably already have viewed. Very informative.

    Have fun.

    1. Hi Julia, Gene Shepherd's beginner video is one I watched, it was very helpful. I also watched one from a famous Rug hooker from Nova Scotia, I can't remember her name but she's amazing. I loved her free style it made me brave enough to try it on my own.

  4. Great snowman mat and wonderful candle holders. That must have been a heck of a branch!

    1. Thank you. The branch had to be big enough for a tea light to fit in it. It was about 5' tall and barely fit in the back of the jeep, my Hubby made 9 of the candleholders from it. Thanks for checking out my blog. Ronda
