Pictures from Lewis Creek trail

It was a beautiful day here in the eastern Sierra Nevadas, bright sunshine and temps in the 60's. There is a chance of snow tomorrow so DH and I decided to hike our favorite trail while it was still dry.

The Lewis Creek trail is just off of Hwy 41, about 10 miles west of Oakhurst, CA and 10 miles east of the south entrance to Yosemite National park. If you're spending time in the area it is a beautiful and fairly easy hike.

These two signs greet you at the beginning of the trail:

If I encounter a mountain lion I don't think I'll remember any of these things, I'll hold my ground but only because I'll be too scared to move.

Other than the sound of the running stream the trail is quiet.

The trail runs adjacent to Lewis Creek:

And is surrounded by pines:

There are surprises along the way:

My favorite bridge (I can't stop taking pictures of it)

Rapids:

Tiny mushrooms by an old stump:

Today we ran across a big surprise, ladybugs, hundreds of them:

They were only in one area on the trail, I've never seen so many in one place before.

Other than one other couple we had the trail to ourselves.

Because the weather was so nice and it felt more like spring than late fall we ended the day by barbecuing steaks for dinner.

Hope your day was as nice as mine.

Tomorrow is the wool club meeting at Quilters Paradise and I can't wait, I've written down several questions that I hope the members will be able to answer for me.

Til later, Ronda

  1. Looks like a beautiful hike! The sign would've scared me into stopping though. :( Thanks for sharing your pictures!

  2. What a pretty day to go for a hike, beautiful blue sky and great pictures. We walked Christmas Tree Lane last night. It was way too crowded but we both got over 10,000 steps and the weather was great for walking.

  3. Hi Rhonda, thanks for visiting my blog and for following. Welcome to my world. I'll follow you too. It's nice meeting another rug hooker.

I belong to Rug Hooking Daily which is a forum for rug hookers and fibre artist and it's free to belong. I personally met Heidi, the lady who owns the site and she's fantastic. If you are not yet a member I suggest that you check out the site. Just type Rug Hooking Daily in your Browser and it will take you there.

You are a brave girl walking in a trail where you may encounter a mountain lion. I would have made a tail spin and gone back. I've seen a ladybug infestation one year when we had a spindle tree that had aphids. The aphids attracted ants who milked the aphids and then we had webworms in it and finally the ladybugs laid their eggs on that tree because it had a source of food for their babies and before we knew it the tree was covered and in the fall the ladybugs came in the house around the windows and we had a hard time getting rid of them as they kept surfacing from their hiding place.

    Take care,
    JB

  4. Hi Julia, so excited to have you visit my blog and decide to follow. As you can see I'm new to blogging but am enjoying sharing my life and thoughts. I also enjoy meeting new people from all over the world.

Thank you for telling me about Rug Hooking Daily, I just signed up and am waiting to be approved.

My DH and I moved to the Sierra Nevada mountains in Sept 2011 from the city. We were told to remember we live in a wilderness area, we haven't seen a mountain lion but we have seen bobcats, deer, rabbits and quail. I'd rather not see anything bigger thank you very much.

    Have a nice weekend. Ronda
